Caleffi Pressure Reducing Valve

July 2006

A pressure reducing valve (PRV) is an automatic control that eases a high incoming pressure to a lower, more suitable pressure in a variety of different applications. In domestic situations it reduces banging water pipes, dripping taps, leaking water heaters, noisy pipe work as well as increase the life expectancy of appliances. In industrial situations, the pressure reducing valve should be installed to protect sensitive equipment downstream of the valve so that any pressure fluctuations or spikes to not cause damage.

Pressure reducing valves are simple, inexpensive products that have a pay-back period of about 12 months and are a valuable asset to any piping system. Many people are under the misapprehension that more pressure is better when, in fact, it is often the reverse. Too much pressure in a system puts unnecessary strain on water heaters, plumbing joints, taps, washers, etc, increasing the chance of leaks, burst hoses on washing machines and other appliances and adding greatly to water hammer problems.

The Caleffi 5335 Pressure Reducing Valve, in 15mm and 20mm sizes is adjustable between 100-600 kPa. It can handle up to 1600 Kpa static pressure and up to 60 degrees Celsius. The valve is approved to AS1357.2 and is factory set at 500kPa which helps installers comply to regulations in AS3500. An industrial 535 series, ‘dial-up’ version is also available in 15mm - 50mm sizes and can handle up to 2500kPa of static pressure.

The Caleffi Pressure Reducing Valve is distributed by All Valve Industries and is now being sold by most leading retailers.
